Recipe Roundup: Five Healthier Dessert Recipes for Valentine’s Day

We all need to treat ourselves once in a while and what better occasion than Valentine’s Day! We have gathered some of our current favorite healthier desserts that will be the perfect way to celebrate with your partner or bestie. There is a little something for everyone here, so we hope you love one of these desserts as much as we do!

A little note about what makes a dessert “healthier”… Everyone’s body is different, so what is “healthy” for one person isn’t necessarily “healthy” for another person. However, in general, we look for recipes that are as close to nature as possible. That means choosing ingredients that are mostly whole, natural foods. When it comes to dessert, we look for gluten-free flours (like almond flour, coconut flour, gf oat flour, etc.) and unrefined sugars (pure maple syrup, raw honey, coconut sugar, dates, etc.) Most of these recipes are also dairy-free. However, we encourage you to modify any recipes to meet your personal needs!

1. Sweet Laurel Bakery’s Chocolate Cake Mix with Coconut Cream and Berries

This cake not only looks beautiful, but it’s also extremely easy to throw together because….there’s a boxed mix involved! Sweet Laurel Bakery, one of our absolute favorite spots in Los Angeles, now sells their boxed cake mix online and at selective grocery stores, like Sprouts. Made with almond flour, this cake mix is perfect for our gluten-free friends!

2. Ambitious Kitchen’s Grain Free Tahini Brownies

Once you switch your go-to brownie recipe to this one, you will never go back! The texture of these brownies is that perfect fudginess we’re all looking for! With the combination of healthy fats and natural sweetness, you won’t have that heavy feeling after enjoying one.

3. Unbound Wellness’ Thin Mint Truffles

They had us at Thin Mint. That beloved girl scout cookie is such a treat, but those of us who struggle with food intolerances can feel a bit left out of this annual party. These little truffles satisfy that mint chocolate craving and also make a great gift! Double the batch and put them in little festive baggies for the perfect Galentine gift!

4. Ambitious Kitchen’s Lemon Blueberry Zucchini Cake with Lemon Frosting

The answer is yes, this counts as a serving of veggies! This makes for a different, light, and refreshing Valentine’s Day dessert. The lemon and blueberry bring a fresh taste to this dessert cake and we promise you can’t taste the zucchini! A piece of this cake would also go really well with a cup of coffee, so no judgement should you happen to have a piece for breakfast the next morning.

5. Laura Lea’s Strawberry Shortcake with Coconut Cashew Cream

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like strawberries. This delicious and nourishing version of the classic Strawberry Shortcake dessert will not disappoint and will look oh so pretty as you serve it up!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Xoxo,
