Recipe Roundup: “Five Anti-Inflammatory Dessert Recipes for Valentine’s Day”
Treat yourself!
In honor of self-love month, we’ve collected some anti-inflammatory treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. When you take the time to bake for yourself and put a little extra love into it, it helps strengthen your relationship with food. The more positivity you can associate with food that makes you feel happy, celebrated, and loved, the better you feel about eating it. That’s an important piece of your journey to an anti-inflammatory life.
Like with anything nutrition-related, everyone is biologically different and therefore can tolerate and/or be sensitive to certain foods, so these recipes are simply ideas. We are always here to recommend alternative ingredients if you need!
These brownies taste like a gooey thin mint cookie but in brownie form! Pure heaven. Studies have shown peppermint extract can relax the muscles in your digestive system, which is why it’s commonly used to help nausea. Peppermint’s anti-inflammatory properties, combined with the antioxidants found in raw cacao, make this dessert a nourishing treat.
We love these bars because they are a nice way to mix it up when it comes to dessert! Turmeric is a spice known to fight inflammation and boost immunity. Additionally, these bars are packed with fiber. A high intake of fiber has been linked to lower inflammation, especially when it comes from whole food sources in this recipe, such as chia seeds, oats, and walnuts.
Cacao is rich in antioxidants and magnesium, both which are important in fighting inflammation. Tip: use a chocolate naturally sweetened with coconut sugar, like Evolved, to make this treat even cleaner.
The omega-3’s found in the flaxseed meal and the healthy fats found in the cashew butter make these anti-inflammatory treats a great choice! They are sweetened with maple syrup, a natural sweetener that contains an anti-inflammatory molecule called “quebecol.” These tasty energy bites are also a good snack in the afternoon when you need a little energy boost.
Hot chocolate is such a nostalgic treat. By using real superfoods to make it taste delicious (sans the powered mix in a tub), hot chocolate can be comforting and a way to fight inflammation.
We hope you enjoy these delicious treats as much as we do!
